Unlocking the Future of Hemp: Join the Hemp Hackathon in Tartu!

Hemp is much more than a sustainable crop; it’s a gateway to innovation. As one of Europe’s largest hemp producers, Estonia is uniquely positioned to explore cutting-edge solutions for hemp by-products. This is why the BioBoosters Nordic Hemp Hackathon, titled “Hemp Hack: Innovate to Elevate,” is inviting creative thinkers, innovators, and entrepreneurs to reimagine the future of hemp utilization.

What is the Hemp Hackathon?

The focus of this year’s hackathon is on finding optimal and efficient ways to valorize winter-retted hemp hurd, fiber, and dust, the by-products obtained during the decortication of hemp stalks by Nordic Hemp. Unlike traditional uses such as hempcrete, briquettes, or clothing, this hackathon is about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with hemp by-products.

Participants will be challenged to develop solutions or technologies that propose novel, creative, and economically viable uses for hemp hurd, fiber, and dust. This is an opportunity to demonstrate your ability to think outside the box while contributing to sustainability and innovation in the hemp industry.

  • Date: January 14th, 2025
  • Location: Webinar

Why Join?

This hackathon is designed for visionaries who want to leave a mark on the rapidly evolving hemp industry. Whether you’re a scientist, designer, engineer, entrepreneur, or student, your ideas can help transform these by-products into valuable solutions for the future.

Here’s what you’ll gain by participating:

  • Challenge the Norm: Explore groundbreaking applications beyond conventional uses for hemp by-products.
  • Collaboration: Work with experts, industry leaders, and like-minded innovators.
  • Networking: Build connections with stakeholders in the hemp and sustainability sectors.
  • Real-World Impact: Your ideas could shape the future of hemp utilization, influencing global trends.

What We’re Looking For

At “Hemp Hack: Innovate to Elevate,” we seek solutions that:

  1. Innovate Beyond the Conventional: Forget about hempcrete, briquettes, and textiles—what’s the next big thing?
  2. Demonstrate Economic Viability: Show how your idea can be scaled for real-world application.
  3. Focus on Sustainability: Ensure that your solution aligns with environmental and social goals.

Examples might include creating advanced materials, developing cutting-edge technologies, or designing entirely new industries around hemp by-products.

The Value of Hemp By-Products

Estonia ranks as the third-largest hemp producer in Europe, yet the potential of hemp hurd, fiber, and dust remains underexplored. By joining this hackathon, you’ll contribute to enhancing the value of these by-products, unlocking new possibilities for the bioeconomy, and putting Estonia at the forefront of hemp innovation.
